Our Client is currently seeking an experienced Sediment Practitioner with strong technical and management experience to pursue, win, and lead high profile contaminated sediments projects in the Pacific Northwest and support similar projects throughout North America. The primary project work is out of their Seattle, WA and Portland, OR offices; the home office location is flexible. They seek a technically proficient individual with demonstrated experience successfully addressing the investigation, remediation, and restoration of contaminated sediment sites, using conventional best practices and emerging technologies. A successful candidate must be able to write and to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner; and oversee and work productively with junior technical staff and subcontractors while assuring work scopes and safety requirements are met. Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills will be necessary to work in our collaborative team-oriented offices; strong interpersonal skills are a must. The individual should have a relevant technical background in engineering in marine/coastal and aquatic systems and experience in planning and managing projects.

Job Description

Specific responsibilities include:
- Managing assessments, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and remedial implementation for cleanup of complex sediment sites with terrestrial, river, lake, or marine concerns under CERCLA or state programs.
- Planning and directing environmental sampling programs and critically evaluating laboratory data for feasibility study and design purposes.
- Developing technically astute Conceptual Site Models.
- Conducting Feasibility and Treatability Studies to evaluate remedial options.
- Implementing solutions and offering innovations to remediate contaminated sediment sites.
- Engaging in regular client and regulatory communication relating to project management, technical issues, and cleanup strategies.
- Development of sediment remedial design plans, specifications, and construction contract documents.
- Implementation of remedial actions, construction oversight/management and quality assurance, and long-term monitoring programs.
- Researching and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Staff training and leadership development in sediment remediation.
- Leading an engineering team and recruiting staff as needed.
- Qualify for and obtain Project Management certification.
- Managing multi-discipline teams to deliver complex projects.
- Actively communicating in high-pace environments requiring organic decision-making.
- Client outreach and development.
- Identification and development of local teaming partners/contractors.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, such as environmental/chemical/civil/geotechnical engineering or equivalent discipline and minimum 10 years of experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in sediment remediation requirements and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Professional license in applicable field or ability to obtain in WA and OR.
- Due to the nature of the work U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Valid Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in sediment remediation requirements.
- Master’s degree in environmental/civil/chemical engineering, geology, environmental science, or related degree.
- Ability to relocate to Seattle or Portland
- Demonstrated experience preparing remedial design documents.
- Relevant, recent, direct experience negotiating at multiple PRP sites for site assessment strategies and cleanup program objectives.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, and well as stakeholder and public concerns.
- Experience developing and preparing reports regarding regulatory compliance for hazardous constituents in sediment for submittal and acceptance for technical client and state agency review.
- Experience with site investigation techniques, developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies.
- Model experience or specialized knowledge, such as sediment transport and recontamination evaluations, to support remedial analyses.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, project teams, subcontractors, and research organizations.
- Ability to write and review complex technical documents, perform high level review and strategy.
- Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.
- Strong communication skills at all levels.
- Provide technical supervision of subcontractors and ensure work scopes and safety requirements are met.
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification, and current 8-hour refresher.
- Comprehension of Government compliant technical reports, deliverables, recordkeeping.
- Computer proficient in MS Office, ACAD, ESRI ARC GIS, and statistical programs helpful.
