Job Description

Perform engineering and design duties, which require application of engineering principles and knowledge of substation design. The candidate requires knowledge of protection and control design and settings applications for high voltage substation stations ranging from 4kV to 500kV.

  • Create design documents and drawings for substation projects including one line diagrams, AC & DC schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and applying field mark-ups of project as-built drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) design reviews for all Protection and Control documents.
  • Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as relay coordination, load flow and short circuit studies.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project engineer, customer representatives, and others as needed.
  • Provide excellent client/customer service.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in substation relay and protection engineering design.
  • Thorough understanding of distribution system relay protection schemes.
  • Able to fluently utilize Aspen Relay Database for relay settings reviews and entries.
  • Has vast experience with distribution and transmission relays (SEL, Basler)
  • Familiar with general P&C guidelines including standard utility practices and NERC compliant designs.
  • Familiarity with communication and SCADA protocols along with AC and DC schematics.
  • Ability to apply and design protection schemes for various substation components such as transformers, transmission lines, capacitor banks, and busses.
  • Ability to use various types of microprocessor relays such as SEL, Basler, and GE.
