This Sr. Engineer will support construction engineering functions inside the Distributed Energy Deployments (DED) team and will report directly to the DED - Project Construction Manager. The DED team is responsible for safely constructing Solar, Battery, and Microgrid distribution connected sites across all of our clients regulated jurisdictions. This role will be responsible for detailed engineering and mechanical calculations to evaluate battery energy storage and distributed photovoltaic site performance and regulatory reporting requirements. This role will support the 50+ facilities that are anticipated to be on-line in the next 5 years.
The Sr. Engineer will provide continual support, standards and specifications reviews, preventative maintenance plans and proposal development, participation in site performance reviews, procurement and contractor support, quality assurance and testing support, operational data trending and analysis, operational report development, and emergent maintenance support. This role will have a focus on general engineering with specific focus on electric and electronic concepts. This role will require the ability to support multiple projects in various phases of the project life cycle, with the ability to adapt and change areas of focus frequently.
  • The Sr. Engineer will also require familiarity with Microsofts Maximo suite and extensive Power BI development history.

Such a wide range of activities dictates the successful candidate will have been directly associated with previous electric utility projects or similar industry projects.
Interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team is required as this role will have continuous interaction with clients and internal/external stakeholders.
Energy Storage is relatively new so this role will function in a pseudo start-up environment while following the established rules and polices of a traditional electric utility.

The Sr. Engineer position is the career level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Sr. Engineer position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited to no direct supervision. A Sr. Engineer is expected to utilize advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. A Sr. Engineer will effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied. Responsibilities
  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering and six (6) years minimum of related work experience OR
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering AND five (5) years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Bachelor's of Science degree must be ABET accredited with no state registration as a Professional Engineer
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

Specific Requirements
  • Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with batteries at the battery/inverter level
  • Prior experience with solar/renewable energy
  • Prior experience with performance analytics- Power BI
  • Proficient in engineering theories and principles
  • Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations,
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in principles of project management
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience in the utility industry

Working Conditions
  • M - F, flexible schedules available after training and based on business needs
  • Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. 
  •  Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.
  • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
  • Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.
  • Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.
