Job Description
This role incorporates talking to customers, engineering design, and project management.
Duties Include:
- Daily review of Maximo Work Management System for new work orders and changes to existing customer-facing work orders.
- Call/email/text customers in response to their questions and concerns.
- Arrange to meet with customers on-site to take field notes and work up design sketch to run new electric service to residential/commercial buildings (includes Primary and Secondary Voltage equipment design) to meet customer needs and Duke Energy standards
- Estimate costs for customers where applicable prior to service
- Design work in BOUD design tool
- Once work is scheduled, ensure any construction issues are resolved until meter is set
- Note: No electrical hands-on work required. But PPE (Hard hat, EH safety shoes, leather gloves for hammering/staking, traffic vest) are required. Safety is part of the job.
- Note: 40 hrs/week is the norm. If there is a major storm, you may be given the opportunity to work in a Scout/Damage-Assessor role (with overtime).

- If so, what kind? hard hat, leather gloves, traffic vest, EH safety shoes
- Will this worker work in the field, plant, lab or office environment? 30% field, 70% office
- Will this worker encounter any hazardous work conditions? If so, please explain. Yes – animals (including wasps bees & ticks), tripping hazards, dropping objects, vehicles.
- Will this worker be required to lift as part of their duties? If so, how many pounds on average? Yes – 20 lbs
- Will this worker be required to climb ladders? If so, what is the height of the ladder? No
- Will this worker be required to use any machinery? If so, what kind? No
- Will this worker be required to drive as part of their duties? If so, what is the radius of the miles driven on average? Yes – and they must have their own dependable & presentable vehicle. Average is?100 miles per week.
Provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Workers are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence.
Provides technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches. Conducts engineering and related studies.
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. Either a graduate from a college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 4 to 6 years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 10 to 15 years equivalent experience with no degree. Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds Good written and oral communication skills. Experience in the utility industry. Understanding of basic principles of project management.
