Job Description

Our client is looking for a motivated and highly detail-oriented person to manage the safety, welfare, and of its growing facilities. To qualify the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree, and or at least 5 years of experience within the industrial, Environmental, or manufacturing industry as well as strong knowledge of Environmental, health and safety, labor laws and compliance.
This position reports to the Director and interacts with the other Directors and individual department managers.   The in-office position is located at the corporate headquarters in Livonia, MI with routine travel to the two facilities in Bowling Green, and Wauseon, OH.
Responsibilities:
  • Written program, facility compliance identification and maintenance
    • Identify, develop and maintain all required programs
  • Weekly inspections
  • All In-House training requirements
    • Conducting, scheduling, and providing content for training
    • Identify other training needs for project staff – scheduling and organizing
      • HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT, all safety topics and tasks
    • Maintain Training matrix and records updates
  • Customer training
    • Facilitate and or coordinate customer training requests
  • Accident, Injury, and near miss investigation, management, and reporting (all locations)
    • 300/300A log management and reporting. 
    • Workers comp management
  • ISN, PEC, and PICS compliance and updates.
    • Online database collection of EHS data
  • Transportation compliance (Work in conjunction with Transportation Manager)
    • Transportation permit monitoring and renewal as necessary
  • New hires
    • Med Monitoring program enrolment and management, DFWP policy management, Safety and Compliance New Hire Orientation
  • Direct contact for sales, PM’s and customer compliance questions and inquiries
    • Emergency response event guidance and assistance
    • Research projects (Health, Safety or Environmental)
    • Facility questionnaires
  • Acting safety officer for off-site projects – Off-site spot checks and additional E/H/S support as needed
  • Current and perspective facility auditing – site visits and reviews
    • Hosting audits and Completion of audits and audit questionnaires of all downstream facilities
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety and environmental management, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent
  • Professional designations such as a Certified Hazard Materials Manager (CHMM), 40 Hour HAZWOPER, 30-hour OSHA Certified, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Associate Safety professional (ASP)
  • Safety management experience in a related industry, including consumer packaged goods, distribution/transportation, and manufacturing
  •  Minimum 3-5 years’ managerial experience in EHS
  •  Effective communication and interpersonal skills including public speaking skills and presence in meetings and training environments
  •  Work collaboratively with colleagues to create a result driven, team-oriented environment
  •  Maintain confidentiality, make independent decisions, demonstrate excellent organizational skills using PC and related software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Handle multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Safety degree and/or related certification, EHS auditing
