Overview:
Summary
The Field Engineer is a mechanical project engineering role within Client Company Gas Compression Project Engineering team. This role supports field execution of the Unitized Cooling Project at Overisel Compressor station. The Field Engineer will work in a team setting. The Field Engineer works closely with project managers, engineers of other disciplines, construction managers, construction contractors, startup & testing personnel, system engineers, station operations, and station maintenance personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget.
Responsibilities
The Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and support in the field during construction, startup & testing, commissioning, and closeout activities. The Field Engineer will ensure the successful implementation and operation of mechanical systems and equipment. This role requires a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, hands-on problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in dynamic and challenging environments.
Technical Support: Provide on-site technical support and guidance to project teams, subcontractors, and clients regarding mechanical engineering issues, specifications, and standards. Resolve technical challenges and ensure compliance with design requirements and industry best practices.
Communication: Timely review and response to contractor Request for Information (RFI) and contractor Submittals.
Documentation and Reporting: Review project records, documentation, and reports related to field activities, including installation logs, inspection reports, test results, and equipment performance data. Communicate findings, progress updates, and recommendations to project stakeholders in a timely manner.
Safety Compliance: Promote and enforce safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors to coordinate field activities, schedules, and resources effectively. Participate in project meetings, site visits, and progress reviews to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
Relationships: Foster positive relationships with station operations, project stakeholders, and construction contractors by addressing their concerns, providing technical assistance, and delivering solutions that meet their expectations.
Skills:
- Experience in the design, construction, or operation of natural gas compressor station equipment
- Experience in reviewing designs to assure compliance with engineering design, applicable codes, constructability, and industry standards.
- Knowledge of CFR 49 Part 192 Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline (Minimum Federal Safety Standards), and/or Michigan Gas Safety Standards Guide (MGSS),
- Knowledge of ASME Codes & Standards e.g., ASME B31.8, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME B16.5/16.47, ASME BPVC, etc.
- Knowledge of API Specifications & Standards e.g., API 5L, API 6D, API 1104, etc.
- Experience in procurement of engineered material, equipment and professional services.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 5+ years of applied ABET engineering experience
