- The Staff Structural Engineer will work on a multi-discipline project team to develop designs of electrical substations to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the United States.
- The Staff Structural Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design, procurement and construction process, adapting structural plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. Thinking creatively to address the complex challenges faced by the largest utilities in North America.
- Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations and secondary oil containment.
- Providing support for our clients during construction. Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
- Leading a team of single- or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
- Presenting designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc.
- Corresponding and/or meeting with clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Participating in project proposal efforts.
- Advancing into leadership roles.
- Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Applies strong knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry.
- Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
- Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program or Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
- 3 years of structural engineering experience, consulting preferred
- Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.
- Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D), AutoCAD, ETABS, SAFE and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel (10% to 25%).
